Description
In order to connect Styria as well, scheduled coaches were operated from Graz as the EC 116, which transferred to the EC 64, i.e. the main train, in Salzburg. Two of them terminated in Munich. In the opposite direction, of course. A complete train consisted of eleven coaches as scheduled. For several years, the SNCF provided two Corail coaches (available from Piko) from Strasbourg/Strasbourg to/from Paris Est.
EC 64 “Mozart” provided an important connection from Austria and southern Germany to Paris and vice versa. It was possible to travel comfortably from the major cities in Austria and southern Germany to Paris and vice versa without having to change trains. Catering was provided by a dining car, in the 1970s a DSG QuickPick car, later an ÖBB dining car with the è-Express service.
In particular, a change in traffic routing (high-speed traffic in France) and a declining interest in such locomotive-hauled international traffic at Deutsche Bahn AG led to the end of this train and the continuous train run in 2002.
