Description
The two Metropolitan trainsets entered service in August 1999. They served the Cologne-Hamburg route. Both trains, consisting of a class 101 electric locomotive, six intermediate cars and a control car, were custom-built for Metropolitan Express Train GmbH. The luxuriously equipped coach trains were used as regular ICE trains after the end of the Metropolitan service from December 2004 and lost their elegant silver color scheme in the process. The two sets were decommissioned at the timetable change in December 2021 and were initially for sale at DB Gebrauchtzug. As no buyer was found, they were transferred to Eberswalde for scrapping at the beginning of December 2023.
