The locomotives of the 1042 and 1142 series of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) are four-axle electric universal locomotives that were built by SGP from 1963 to 1977. The 1142 series emerged in the 1990s from a rebuild of all locomotives from engine 1042.531 onwards. They were an important pillar of ÖBB’s electric rail operations for decades. The Swedish rail transport company Hector Rail purchased a total of twelve of these locomotives around 2006, but other private railroads in Germany and Austria also acquired locomotives from this series.
