Vossloh Locomotives is one of the European market leaders in the construction of diesel locomotives. With their economy, flexibility and environmental friendliness, the rail vehicles continue to set new standards for mainline and shunting locomotives.

The G 1000 BB can be used for heavy shunting and light mainline service. It is approved in Germany, Italy, Luxembourg (CFL 1100 series) and France. At SBB Cargo they have the series designation Am 842. Some locomotives were leased in 2006 by the former Railion Deutschland (now DB Cargo Deutschland) to test their suitability as a possible successor to the 290/294 series. They were given the series number 261 for this purpose, but these numbers were not written on the vehicles.
