Description
The KISS (comfortable innovative high-speed suburban train) is an electric double-decker multiple-unit train from the Swiss-based manufacturer Stadler Rail. The multiple-unit train is available from two to eight units.
The largest operator is SBB, where the RABe 511 multiple units are used in four- and six-car variants in regional and inter-regional transport. The Swiss BLS also has 39 KISS trainsets – but with the new crash-optimized vehicle head. In 2019, Deutsche Bahn AG purchased 17 KISS from the Austrian Westbahn and converted them for use on intercity services. The four-car IC2 trains run on the Dresden – Rostock and Vienna – Rostock routes. This year, these are to be increased to six cars. Other operators are CFL, Westfalenbahn, ODEG and MAV.
