Description
After the opening of the Iron Curtain and the expansion of cross-border train connections between East and West, new, modern car material was needed. In almost all cases, the existing rolling stock only allowed speeds of 140 km/h to 160 km/h. Exceptions were the EC “Mimara” coaches of the Yugoslavian Railways (later owned by the railroads of the successor states) and the seating coaches of the Hungarian State Railways built by GOŠA in Yugoslavia.
The Hungarian State Railways MAV made the start of the procurement of new passenger coaches in 1994. The Spanish manufacturer CAF supplied comfortable, modern passenger coaches based on the UIC-Z type. Compartment and large-capacity coaches 1. and 2nd class, dining cars, couchette cars and sleeping cars as well as luggage cars were delivered to Hungary from Spain. The carriages are air-conditioned, have closed WC systems, are printer-compatible and are approved for a maximum speed of 200 km/h. They can also be used throughout Europe. They can also travel throughout Europe.
The wagons were first used in Germany and Austria, and later in Italy, Switzerland, Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. In some cases, there were and still are pure-bred trains with CAF wagons, and in some cases groups of wagons or individual wagons were carried on EuroCity and night trains.
From 2018, the coaches underwent a modernization programme in which the interior upholstery was replaced and the colour scheme changed. Schuko and USB sockets were also installed. On the outside, the coaches were given an eye-catching color design. The coaches are still in use.
ASM is launching the EuroCity “Franz Listz/Liszt Ferenc” Budapest – Vienna – Cologne – Dortmund in the 1999 version in N gauge in 2026. The paint and lettering of the coaches correspond to the originals and impress with precise paint and lettering as well as a multi-colored interior.
As you would expect from our models, they have perfect rolling characteristics, a built-in, loop-free current pick-up and close coupler kinematics with an NEM coupler pocket. All cars are available individually, together they form the complete train.
