The E001 is operated by JR East is also known as Train Suite Shiki-shima and is a one-off. The luxury train offers space for 34 passengers plus staff and has been in operation since 2017. The hybrid multiple-unit train built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries/J-TREC has been in service since May 2017 and operates from Ueno. JR East offers 2-, 3- and 4-day rail cruises with the Train Suite. In addition to 15 suites, which are already very elegantly furnished, there are two more luxury suites for travelers to choose from. There is also a dining car, a lounge and an observation car on the ten-car train. The E001 is powered either by a diesel engine or electrically via the overhead line, giving the multiple-unit train a top speed of 110 km/h.
