Hobbytrain set of 2 DDm98-70 ÖBB car transport wagons, Ep.VI v-red – new shape

Car trains have a long tradition in Germany – in 1956, Deutsche Bundesbahn launched the first car train from Hamburg to Chiasso. In 1988, Deutsche Bundesbahn’s car train service already comprised 2929 car trains and 484 D trains with car transportation. In 2017, ÖBB took over the car passenger train service from Deutsche Bahn AG and integrated it into its Nightjet night train division. Four-axle DDm915 car transport wagons purchased in the 1970s are used. The wagons were initially manufactured by Waggonbau Graff and later by Waggonfabrik Uerdingen. In 1971, the Austrian Federal Railroad procured ten DDm98-80 cars from Waggonfabrik Uerdingen, which are very similar to the DB’s DDm915. Eighty further developed DDm98-70 coaches were built at the Jenbacher works between 1982 and 1990. Hobbytrain is producing both the DDm915 and the DDm98-70 with all the design differences as detailed models for N scale.
