With a journey time of 10 hours and 14 minutes, the EuroCity 8/9 from Hamburg to Zurich and back are real long-distance trains. The EC 9 departs from Hamburg-Altona at 6:29 a.m. and travels via Bremen, Münster, Düsseldorf, Mainz, Baden-Baden and Basel – finally reaching its destination at Zurich Central Station at 5 p.m. The EuroCity, consisting of twelve SBB EC coaches, is pulled from Hamburg to Basel Bad Bf by a Deutsche Bahn AG class 101 electric locomotive, after which it continues with a Swiss Federal Railways Re 460 electric locomotive. A particular highlight of the train is the first-class panoramic coach, which is currently dressed in the design of the Gotthard Panorama Express.
